Best settings for mapping
Does anyone have the same issue? Every time I fly a mapping mission..... when I process/stitch the images there are many parts they do not line up. I have tried changing the offset settings and have flown higher but still get the same. Thanks

Hello, May I ask what is the program you are using to stitch and what drone you are using?
Mine are perfectly stitched and aligned. I’m using Maps Made Easy service as my stitching software and I’m very happy with it. Great 3D modeling, too.
Netspl0it I am using Microft ICE
Any ideas for "Best settings" example front and side over lap??? or speed? or best altitude?
I am using a Mavic Mini by the way
Thanks
Best settings vary, if you are going for a orthomosaic 2D, at least 70% overlap on both front and side.
Depending on the weather if it is very cloudy or darker then slower is better 10mph or so bright you can do 18 or so depending on altitude of course drone link tells you GSD(Ground Sampling Distance) the lower the better however for most common mapping such as orthomosaic 1.2in GSD should be plenty. 0.4in is recommended however as it keeps the mapping accuracy below 1.5in -- all that to say this lower alt is better as you get better quality you also get alot more data, but the lower the altitude the slower you will have to go due to rolling shutter... this is not to scale just my personal findings with a MA2 200ft no faster than 16mph, 150 no faster than 13ish, 250ft no fater than 18 300 no faster than 20.
Put your variables in and dronelink will calculate the best fastest speed lower than you specified to meet all of its requirements. Remember change as you need it and above is based on a clear day so dawn dusk will have to slow do or overcast etc.
If you have any other questions feel free to pm me and I will try to help Mapping missions is based alot on variables that will collect enough data for your needs.
EDIT* You can try another stitching program also, ICE did good for me when I mapping flying manually and taking the pics manually however once I started mapping with dronelink it then started not lining up properly after trying another few stitching programs ICE was the only one I had issues with.
Netspl0it Thank you very much Ill read what you wrote and apply the settings
Forest Weston Ive used Maps Made Easy and it lines up better...but, the buildings are morphed a little and some other digital blurs. But maybe after I try to adjust my settings it will work better
@barry morphed how? Can you post a screenshot?
some corners arent straight
At what altitude was this taken? What overlaps
it was 200 feet and 70% overlaps.....about 15 MPH
Everything lined up...... just have that same morphed edges and some digital blurs. Not all that bad, but annoying
What angle was the camera set?
-90
Try it at -85 it will allow some lens auto calibration the morphing you are referring to is by the shadows right?
I will try....thanks
The morphing happens on all edges of houses on Maps Made Easy
Ive also heard changing the ha (hatch angle) can help? can figure it out in the web app / program when I create a mission
Try using ICE and MME - I personally use ODM and cannot complain on the results however it takes a lot of processing power and RAM. Approx. 32gb RAM for 300ish images but the quality is unmatched imo
In MME, when initiating a new map, there is an option for “Full 3D”. Be sure to check that box if you are trying to model buildings. What exactly is “hatch angle”?
no luck on the -85 angle
Yesterday I ran a series of test because I was curious I ran the same flight path, altitude, same everything at 90⁰, 85⁰, 80⁰ and 75⁰ processed all the images and for best 2D accuracy and 3D accuracy 85⁰ was best for best 3D accuracy 75⁰ was best. This was on a Mavic air 2 so results can vary depending on your drone type, program used to process the images, and even weather conditions it was clear and sunny with 20mph winds when this was ran all test were ran within 3 minutes of each other as I did a small area with a lot of building and elevation differences.
Single path isn't optimal if you are looking for best accuracy you should run a double grid if you are looking for best results and I would do 75 front and 80 side if you are doing it for strictly 3D modeling
Edit: I also wanted to mention for 2D only accuracy, 85⁰ was also the best so if you are looking for best accuracy in both categories go with 82⁰ that would probably be the sweet spot on a MA2 to get the absolute best 2D and 3D. Also as stated above double grids are recommended for best 3D results as well as no more than 0.5in GSD
Im normally just flying 2 D... should I try a grid pattern? 85 degree overhead?
Like I said results can vary, mine was with a MA2, you should try another program first I think what you are using is having issues... if you would like to send me approx 75 images and I can see how it turns out for me I can provide you with a place to upload in full quality
I can provide images
Contact me via discord @netspl0it#0518
Is that an email address?
No it's a discord username, goto discord.com or download discord from the app store it will allow us to chat so I can retrieve the pics
I will work on that ASAP. Just got to work haha
Thanks
