When is the full version Dronelink with Mavic Air 2 support?

vg1

When can you expect the full version of Dronelink for Air 2?

Will it be until DJI releases a revised version of the SDK for Air 2?

What are your plans in this regard?

vg1 i tried it in beta with the MA2 and i need something like dronelink it has massive potential if they can make it work smoothly with this aircraft ,i like you will wait for the finished product as the beta is not good enough if you need to fly missions as yet.it will be great but not yet .

i hope they can make it work well but maybe some of the issues are with the sdk ....

The new release of the finished product is working great with the MA2 for me! I’ve only run a couple mapping missions so far, hope the weather permits more testing today. Very smooth and accurate movements in my experience. Risk your $20 and I’m betting you will want to upgrade.

have you tried any orbits  ?

i tried loads in the last build and it was not smooth like the orbit in the dji app ,i use a lot of this feature ,also quite jerky and unnatural in turns ,i hope they can really make this work as its got so much more in terms of features than rival software's out there.

would be great if you could post a clip of maybe a nice orbit with the MA2 using this ,would really appreciate.

I just added a premium account so I will set up an orbit and try it. I’ll post the results as soon as I can fly it. Hoping for good flying weather later today!

FYI, Mats Bohlinsson has a theory that some of the jerky movements on the yaw axis may be caused by an issue with DJI's onboard code when the gimbal is in Yaw Follow mode on some drones (worse on the lower end models). We have not been able to confirm this yet, but if it is true, it sounds like fixing it requires hacking their SDK, which may result in getting banned from their developer program, and may not even be possible on iOS.

Yeah I think it's hard to do anything about this until DJI enable FREE-mode for the gimbal through their SDK.

I done a lot of testing and I think it's impossible to get it as smooth as dji built-in modes.

1 You can easily test this. Fly low in normal gps mode.

2 Grap one leg and shake the drone quite heavily. The gimbal is completly still.

3 Do the same in virtual stick, and the gimbal follows the drones movement much more.

I will do an example video as soon as I get my air2 back in air. Crashed during hacking :-(

Great theory Mats will have a look.

is the free mode for the gimble available on the mavic 2 ? im guessing it is as this is smooth using dronelink ..

when i watch my footage back sometimes i think its the yaw ,the aircraft will go sideways a bit and then yaw instead of doing the motion as one if that makes sense.i will try and get out over the next few days the weather is very cold and windy atm here but due to improve.

I put a couple recent posts up about the previous jerky movement with video feed and the new updates. The Problem seems fixed to me. I’m using an IPad Mini 5 with the Mavic Air 2. It was jerky on a few occasions over the past couple months with certain versions when I used it. The last Beta versions and now with the Native app release it is smooth as silk with my setup just like with the DJI Fly app.

I tried DL initially on the a Mavic Mini before they came out with the Beta testing for MA2. The video feed was smooth when I used it to test my very first plans. Don’t believe I ever had an issue with the Native app and MM feed.

As far as smooth Orbits, I’ve had no issues. Curious what devices your using ?  If your having jerky movements in the “DJI app” then that’s not DL, that’s a device issue. Even if the device you use is on on DJI’s approved list, they may not be powerful enough to run well especially  smooth video. There have been no issues with the DJI Fly app and video feed  it’s always work perfect since I got my MA2 last August

    Enjoy everyone, Mike......

i did have poor video feed as you did ,that has settled down now but not the video playback ,its like the drone is jerking now and again ,looks horrid on an orbit for example.Mavic air 2.

Maybe it’s the SD card. Not sure what you have. Also I’m sure you know it needs to be downloaded from the SD card to the hard drive. Even with a fast card it can play poorly depending on the speed of SD card and processing speed. All my videos from SD card are perfectly smooth and clear.

Also the speed needs to be slow like 8 to 10 mph. Lower speed on tighter orbits, a bit faster speeds on larger Orbits. Just never too fast

i only use sandisk extreme pro cards ,all work perfect on the dji app .orbits as smooth as silk.

the issues are only when i fly a dronelink mission and only in turns especially in orbits ,any chance you can post a link to one of your smooth orbits please its driving me mad lol.i have tried speeds down to 4mph

i use a mini ipad 5th gen cell .had the ma2 since june ,wonderful bit of kit also have a little spark

The Sandisk Extreme Pro is what I use also. V30 speed rated, U3, A2. Great SD card so that should not be any issue

There will always be a bit of movement especially with even 5 mph winds or more. Especially when rotating into the crosswinds which hit the left or right side of drone. It will push it just enough to make small yaw movements. However, with the MA2 it’s very little with mine especially at lower speeds. It’s always windy here where I live. A Minimum of 5 to 10 mph winds almost everyday and much higher most of the year. I have a personal weather station and a portable Anemometer. So I know the wind speeds are accurate. I expect a bit of pushing around even if only about 5 mph or so. It will make it yaw a bit to stay in the Orbit.

Also the Orbits are obviously the Drone rolling and yawing at the same left or right to stay in a circle around an object. If using the “DJI Fly” app to do automated Orbits, it uses Focus track which locks onto an object. I imagine this is why the Fly app looks a bit smoother with less yawing. Just a thought.

Here is a link to an Orbit only with DL and my MA2. I checked the plan and the max speed is set at 10 mph for this Orbit and it varied very little threw-out the orbit. It’s actually a “corkscrew” Orbit which gets bigger and elevates up higher till the end. Still works the same and looks great overall.

If you pay close attention you will see when it rotates around the back of house and especially rotating towards the front where my garage is, the drone is getting hit with cross winds from the east and moving around more. This is because the drone is rotating with the winds and may move a bit quicker then going against the cross winds. When rotating around both sides of house it moves very little because the winds are hitting the front and back of drone. I Don’t know exactly what the wind speeds were but I’m sure they were a minimum of 5 mph.

I know this is a lot of info but maybe something will help. Also if your not already doing this, always shut down IPad and restart it up fresh before and any flight with DJI Fly or DL. Just like any PC they can get bogged down and need a reboot. I do this every flight regardless.

Thanks Mike ,that's a great help ,i can see it twitch a couple of times but not as bad as mine was doing.

i live on the east coast of England ,North sea  !!! its very exposed, just had a look and tomorrow is 44mph again.and yes i have flown the MA2 in 40mph to try it and i was pleasantly surprised how well it flew ,i have a little spark and that dont like any wind so it hardly ever flies around here.can i ask if you changed any of the other parameters like in this video to help smooth out the flight.

i have tried these settings but made no real difference.

thanks again for the input .

👍🏼  Yes I forgot to mention the adjustments I make for rotation rates. I set it to about 15 to 25 rotation rate and the deceleration and acceleration rotation to -5 and 5 respectively. On these orbits I’m not sure if it makes a big difference but I’m sure it will help. I’ve tried those settings even a bit slower but it didn’t seem to change much of any. I think it’s the speed first, rotation rates second but, winds are the biggest issue.

My Mavic Mini is so light it doesn’t do Orbits well at all if any good winds. It’s constantly rotating off center and try’s to adjust constantly which doesn’t look good. I’ve slowed it down to about 4 mph and a bit larger Oribit to get it descent looking.

    Good luck.

I ran my first orbit today and yes, it has the herky-jerkys. My MA2 has the latest firmware and I’m running an iPad mini 5, also updated yesterday. It looks like my manually flown orbits did when I started, too much roll then catch up by overdoing the yaw. I don’t seem to be able to post it here...?

I still not understand. Do you talk about the jerky movements during the mission or when you see the video later? I noticed the jerys when I used low fps, I tested 60fps and I see, I think, good movements.

    Look at this: https://youtu.be/-5Wvv2L0HMQ

    Minute 1:39

Can you link a video with jerky movements please?

Hi Raffaello ,the jerky movements are in the actual video the live feed does no matter that much.you notice it when doing curves ,orbits are the worse ,unfortunately i have deleted my poor footage .

when the gales subside over the next few days i will go out and try some more ,just checked UAV forecast and its currently 46mph  !! i have not tried since the latest dronelink update either .

thanks for the link looks ok.

Ok Ninja_Geezer.  Try to record at 1080 60FPS. And after a 1080 30FPS and post the video.

    Look at the difference: https://youtu.be/_SzGQkI-IwM

    Hey Mike, aka Arizona Wyldwest!
In your last post on this topic you mentioned some Orbit adjustments.

First you stated you set the "rotation rate" to about 15 to 25.  Not sure what you mean by that and what parameter in the Orbit component you are referring to.  Can you explain further?

Also, you mentioned modifying the "deceleration and acceleration rotation".  Same question: what parameters are you referring to? Did you mean the Decent and Ascent Rate?

    Thanks for any assistance.
