Focus Mode Conundrum

Andrew Busst

I was trying out the Focus mode in the weekend and discovered by virtue of drone rotation it doesn't do what you would think. So I flew the drone to my location and marked that as point of focus. Then I flew the drone away and back towards me.

All seemed to work fine then I got it to fly over me directly so now the Drone goes "Hmmm I just spun around so I could keep you in shot but now I'm backwards so when you were pushing forward you actually want me to go back towards you then oh ohh I have just gone past you again and flipped around and now I'm going back towards you again.." and so on.

So it was kind of a messy loop above me from just holding the stick in the forward position.

Is that by design? Almost needs a course lock mode so you get that cinematic approach, by recording your Focus point then only pushing forward on the stick on you get that cinematic approach then tilting down of the gimbal then the drone spins around but carries on flying backwards even though you have only titled your stick forwards.

Have I got that right or missed something?

It is correct. During the initial development phase we had an input called RC Input Reference, which had three possible choices:

    1. Drone Heading
    2. North
    3. User Heading

In the end, explaining the difference between the three options was too confusing for the majority of beta users, so we just hid the option and forced it to #1.
