About Mapping

Hi, I'd like to map a field area. Does your app shoot a precise number of photos since I need the exact number for my scope. Is the app showing where the shoots are going to be made? The grid (dimensions and position) can be modified as needed? Also is it possible to have a free trial for a couple of flights just to understand if it works for me?

It uses interval photos so the exact number can vary. We do not offer free trials.

You don’t specify the number of photos - rather, your specify the area to be mapped, the overlap required (both front and side), altitude, and camera. The app uses that information to plan the captures in a grid.

Is the app showing where the shoots are going to be made?

Yes, but this took me a bit to find. After laying out the missing, open the mission preview. Click the “...” button in the top right of the mission card, then “Toggle Capture Markers”

The grid (dimensions and position) can be modified as needed?

Of course! You can even specify to run the mission at a constant height or to follow terrain, as well as define a vertical tolerance.

Also is it possible to have a free trial for a couple of flights just to understand if it works for me?

No, but the mapping plan is a $20 one-time charge, even for commercial use. I am in no way affiliated with Dronelink, but I strongly recommend it. $20 for commercial use of the mapping functionality is a steal in my opinion.

Hello, that plan is no longer available.

Mapping is available in the Elite Hobbyist plan, or the business plans.

The business growth is 69 USD per month. I would say there is nothing not to like. It is one of the premium software on the market. If you want basic and free of charge there are other apps on the App Store.

Y y : You can always upgrade and usually they will either refund the previous plan if within that 30 days as Jacob stated or possibly apply it to the new plan. Either way DL has great support and take care of their customers.

    In response to your questions,

    1. “also the elite has 3d? “. The app will do the mapping and take the photos but any 2D or 3D modeling needs to be done with a separate program or app.

    2. “the business starter has mapping?
Any Hobbyist or higher plan has mapping. Business plans have more mapping features then the Hobbyist plan but obviously more.

    Good luck….

thanks for the answers jacob and mike.

i thought the mapping means it take the photos and make a model from them.
so which app do i need to use to make that model?

also you said - Any Hobbyist or higher plan has mapping.
but jacob said that mapping is only from elite or business.

Y y before I answer that I want to apologize for my first answer.  I answered it on my cell phone between working and traveling and there are multiple reasons not do that.  Every answer on this forum should have substance and be helpful and on a scale of 1-10 mine was a 0.  Along with no substance, it did not sound nice either.  So I am sorry.

I fumbled on another post by addressing it to Jim as if there are not multiple other qualified people on the forum to help answer questions.  Won't make these mistakes again in the future.  Now to answer your second question :)

Two free apps that are widely used are DroneDeploy and Pix4D Capture.   You have to create a free DroneDeploy account to use that app.   But keep in mind that these are just simple mapping apps.  They do not compare to the capabilities of DroneLink.  One such ability is being able to add in obstacles such as cell towers and tall buildings in the middle of your mapping area.  DroneLink has a very robust facade mapping feature, the free apps do not.  And for those who use a P4P, when you map with DroneDeploy you will ALWAYS have missed shots because DD does not support timed interval shots where DroneLink does.   There are many more features that they don't have.

So, if you just want to create some simple lawnmower patterns, then yes DroneDeploy and Pix4D can handle that for you.  But if you need additional features then DroneLink can help you with that.

I hope this answer was much better than the first one.  Have a super duper day.

To follow on from FlyinLo's excellent answer, I think you were also asking about which apps can be used to make a model.

    The key ones are:

    • WebODM - This comes in a variety of options - Lightening is their hosted option which can be accessed here That is paid for on a per-project basis.  You can also install it yourself on your PC, or on a web server if you know how to do that.  I've used all of those options and they all work well.  In my personal opinion, this is the most cost-effective option unless you need less than 50 images
    • 3DF Zephyr Free - which is free...but very limited in the number of images you can use (50 I believe)
    • DroneDeploy - needs their paid service which costs between $99 per month (up to 1,000 images per model) and $299 a month (up to 3,000 images per model)
    • Pix4D - need their paid service which is (I think) $290 a month

    Hope that helps
