Changing height and gimbal angle during an On The Fly Orbit.

Dan McKinney

I must have missed a step...

I like On The Fly Orbit for capturing images.  Exact location is critical so I like to fly directly above the "barn" and use the On The Fly technique for specifying center, radius, etc.   I would hope, after making an orbit to just manually raise the altitude and gimbal angle and then continue with captures.

When I stop the flight and change the height and angle and then resume orbit, the drone returns to the originally specified height and angle not the new desired settings and then continues.  In order to capture a new set of images at the desired height, I have to start over.

What Am I missing?

I don’t do a lot of On The Fly Missions. I know there are several selections which need to be on or off depending on how you want to use it. Speed, stick control, altitude etc…

    Maybe this tutorial will help.

Thank You, that article is great.  I must have missed the section on enabling stick control .  I'll try again tomorrow and report on this forum.

Regarding the fact that the drone goes back to the original position, I already raised that point. Not sure any update will come soon :

HooRay!  I solved my own problem.  How?  I followed the instructions! =)

So, all the things I wanted to do (alter radius, height, speed, and gimbal angle) work just fine in the On The Fly Orbit mode.  For some reason I thought I should pause the orbit and make the changes with the joysticks and then resume.  That did not work as the drone orbit just returned to its last "program."

The correct process is to alter the drone flight with the joysticks while it is executing the original orbit.   The center of the orbit remains constant ( a positive thing for my purposes) but I was able to change the other flight variables as long as I did not pause the drone.

Dan. Good to hear. Many of the On The Fly missions or modes need to be gone through and set based on what your trying to perform. A good amount of ways to fly them. It does take some time to understand all of them and since I rarely use them I’m still learning. Enjoy.

After the software update, the On The Fly Orbit does indeed work the way that I envisioned.

Once an On The Fly orbit is set up and in execution, I can:

1.) Change the radius, height, speed, and gimbal angle

2.) Most valuable to me is that I can pause the orbit after execution and then change the radius, height, speed, and gimbal angle for a second and third set of images for input to 3D modeling and then resume the orbit.  The pause creates a window of time to set everything correctly before resuming the flight.

    Thank you DroneLink!
