Random Mission Failure

Hey, all.

I'm relatively new to the world of drone photogramettry, so bear with me.

I work at a Civil Engineering Firm and have a DJI Mavic Air 2S that I have been using to create orthomosaics for various commercial needs (Yes, I am part 107 certified). I create the missions on DroneLink's webpage and subsequently run the DroneLink application in-field from my iPhone X.

I've flown 4 missions using DroneLink, and the following issue has happened twice: Upon initiation of the pre-planned mission, the drone launches successfully, but the mission is aborted shortly thereafter and I am given a "*MISSION NAME* failed, please retry" message along with various troubleshooting options.

- This happens x amount of times until, after monotonously restarting the app and my drone, it decides to work.

- One of the failed missions was using Terrain Follow and the other was not (both missions were less than 1 acre total).

- Before beginning both missions, I made sure I was connected to at least 15 satellites.

- The most recent mission succeeded after I closed the DJI Fly app [in background], but, during the other mission, DroneLink was the only application running on my phone.

Could this issue be stemming from my 'outdated' iPhone model, or am I missing an important step somewhere?

Go into the DL Web app and select the Icon at bottom and select any of the flown or attempted missions. That will indicate what the actual error was. Take a screenshot for us to look at. That may help. Also you should only be running the DL app, nothing else. Make sure all other apps are forced closed before starting DL app. The iPhone X should have no issues and doubtful it’s the problem. Also if you can share the plan it may help.

Which DL app version are you using and is the drones firmware the most current version ? Always best to keep everything up to date.

FYI I had an iPhone X, finally upgraded. See list of equipment for obsolete or borderline gear. Not saying it is the issue, but I had issues with mine. Dronelink is a great program, but it seems to be quite resource intense to do everything it has to do! Or, as Mike said, maybe DJI running in background was issue if it was.... Download the mission before going into the field? I don't know if that is a cause or not, but maybe would help if in poor cell reception area.

Hello, Mike. Thank you for the response.

Below is a screenshot of the last error message I received during my most recent mission. This is the only error message that I've seen.

I am running DroneLink 4.3.2 on iOS 15.6.1.

Here is the link to the mission.

On Ground Elevations Unavailable specifically, read this thread.

Jim, I cannot see the "x Elevations updates" message mentioned in the thread whilst planning the mission on the webpage, but I can see the route change to match the ground elevations in 3D Planner. Are they inherently the same thing?

If you don't see the message, that is a problem. Can you share the mission plan?

Here are both mission plans I was referencing:

When I copy the first one of those into a test account and make a change, I see a 71 elevations updated message.

This isn't as simple as the drone being in APAS mode, is it?  I've had that and turning APAS off fixed it for me.  You have to turn it off in the Fly app.

James. Could be the browser your using and possibly the settings. Have you tried another browser ? I’ve tried a few times on a couple different plans and all elevations are undated. Also, all the links to your plans are not working but since Jim was able to access them and it works correctly I’d check your browser.

This issue should be corrected in 4.4.0. If you want to confirm, you can join the beta and access the beta web app here.

Jim, thank you very much for the response(s). I have not figured out what the most suitable software is for creating orthomosaics from the DroneLink image group, but when I do and I end up flying more missions, I will keep you updated.

James, several people here, including myself, use WebODM to create orthomosaics. It's free to install yourself if you have the knowledge, or the installer version is pretty economical compared to most of  the other products. It's also a one time payment vs many of the others which are subscription models, or "points" which can quickly add up! It's worth a try to get started.

4.4.0 is rolling out to production today (if you don't want to bother with the beta).
