Logging & Reporting

Emmanuel Otchere

Am a firm believer that everyone needs to focus. But sometimes, it makes sense to broaden the focus just a little bit in order to grow the base, and perhaps attract those who were ever on the fence.

Logging and Reporting is increasingly become a key part of flying drones. With weather APIs available for easy integration at both the front-end and backend, am wondering why i must use another app to check the weather conditions for flying.

Also DroneLink essentially has all the flight logs, so am questioning myself increasingly that why can’t we have “our own” DL reporting and logging portal? Even if it is meant not to compete with others, then perhaps the caveat is to make it front-end service only. Which means there is no backend storage, simply a reporting cache maintained on a UE or Browser Cache which can be rendered and downloaded as a PDF.

So while this is a question, it’s also a potential feature request.

All good ideas, most of which have already been requested. The answer to why a feature doesn’t exist yet is always the same: too many requests / not enough time / software developers. As you can see from the release notes, it isn’t exactly like we are just sitting around ;)

The higher priority feature requests right now are DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise and M30 support, and Autel on Android.

I certainly agree with you. Prioritization is the only way when resources aren’t in abundance. I brought it up only because I saw it as an opportunity to win more subscribers. Anyone thinking folks at DL are just sitting around may want to try the alternative… they’ll come running back.
One point though Jim, beyond subscribing what can we do to help? Am not a full fledged developer, but if there’s something else handy we can do, ping some of us. We love what you and the team are doing, and wish for leaps and bounds, and we’d like to also see how we can effectively be that extended support.

    Thanks for the support!

Active beta testing with detailed feedback is the best way you can help, but if you know any developers, you can encourage them to commit to our open source repos here: https://github.com/dronelink

The all of the vendor Adapters (including Autel for Android) are open source so we would appreciate any help.
