Actual Flight Display - From Dronelink Logs - Show Locations of Pictures taken

Daniel Snyder

Regarding making the Dronelink Logs Useful and User Friendly -

Please present the Actual flight information on a map - including each picture locations captured along with the timestamp and Geo-coordinates.

From the log file it would be straightforward to represent the pictures locations taken on a map.  Missing pictures are penalized.

We pilots get dinged for missing pictures in a shoot and this would be an invaluable picture completeness check - BEFORE leaving the site.

Would this need to be in the app, or could it be in the web GUI?

Barry,  It would seem most straightforward to first have it in the App - because that is where the logs are - on the phone.   As a future enhancement - it could come to the Web GUI.

One thing you can do in the meantime is tick the Verifiy File Created toggle, and Dronelink will stop the mission if it attempts to trigger a capture and no file is generated.

I have always checked the verify file created.  Due to file numbering I can see that no photos failed to be created, however there are sometimes missing pics in a long run.  Would like to figure out how to reduce this from happening.

Would be nice to see on a map which ones are missing.   Also when taking continuous photos at 2 or 3 second intervals - to see where on a map they were taken.!   The usefulness would be to then go to those places and fill in the missing coverage.

I'm not quite sure how you would do that in the app directly.  If the verify file created is checked then, personally, I've not seen it miss anything after that.  However, assuming something was missing, the app believes it is there so the only real way to do this (it seems to me) is to upload all of the pictures (or at least the meta data from the pictures) into another app and have that produce a map showing where each picture was taken.

If you have it you can do this already in Lightroom.  You can also do this in DroneDB.

Maybe there's a way - and probably could be done if you can assume all the photos were taken.

Thanks Barry.   I subscribed to your Youtube channel and added the comment, "The implementation of this feature makes Drone Link surpass the capabilities of Drone Deploy (!) in the documentation and quality completeness area. A well thought out implementation and highly useful for the user community! Well Done!".      And Jim - THANK YOU!

I think you can take a bit of credit for this one - it's a really nice feature and one that I think a lot of people will enjoy.  And congrats to Jim McAndrew also for turning that around so quickly.

    Hi all,

Following up on this one.   Can this function be added to the Dronelink APP?  Lugging an extra laptop into the field just to view the photo locations is very problematic.

You should be able to view the locations on the same mobile device you are flying with.

I've tried but can't find this function in the Android app.   How to do it please?   Thanks.

    1. App main menu (hamburger icon on the home screen)
    2. Mission planner
    3. Missions
    4. Open mission

Having said that, it looks like there may be some issue with that flow right now. Regardless, you can always just open the Dronelink web app from your devices' browser and start at step 3 above.

Jim,  On step 4 I only get these 2 options when trying to "Open mission":

Can a bug fix be forthcoming for this valuable feature please?

To be clear, it looks like you didn't do steps 1 and 2 in that screenshot. You are looking at the mission list in the native app, not the web app there.

I am using the App for Android,  The Hamburger icon.

Its a bit convoluted but I think I found how to get there.  Thanks.

Since you will still need Wi-Fi or cellular service anyway it will work the same using a browser for the web app as using the mission planner in the Native app. No difference in the way it works and no need for lugging your laptop around. 👍🏼
